Wonston Parish, one of the 40 or so Parishes that make up Winchester District, usually called Winchester City, comprises the villages of Suttton Scotney, Wonston, Stoke Charity, Norton and Hunton - quite a small population but a surprisingly large area of land, with all of the social and environmental issues which concern people in rural England.

The lowest rung on the local government ladder is the voluntary Parish Council which strives to represent the views of the community to the higher authorities at District and County level, and even on occasion to Central Government level along with other like minded parishes.  Particularly in the planning field, the Council tries to ensure that planned new housing and conversion work maintains the traditional values which village communities cherish.  The Council also actively encourages the various public authorities to do their jobs in maintaining and repairing roads, drainage, communication and the like.  In fact, the Council takes an interest in almost every facet of village life.

The Chairman of the Wonston Parish Council is  Pauline Maunder. The other Councillors are Judith Polak, David Price, Kevin Maunder Rob Parker and Georgina Tibbets. The Council normally meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except August) in the Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney, starting at 7.30pm. Parishioners are most welcome to attend these meetings, and are especially encouraged to attend the Annual Parish Meeting. Full details of the times and locations of meetings are on the agenda which is available each month on this website, the noticeboards in the Parish and on the Facebook page.

The Council is determined that its activities on behalf of the parish should be open to all interested parishioners and there is indeed a statutory requirement that this should be so.
